Cinderella Will Dazzle and Delight Young and Young-At-Heart
Milwaukee Ballet Brings the Beloved Rags-To-Riches Fairy Tale to Life, May 14-17
MILWAUKEE – April 20, 2015 – Milwaukee Ballet concludes its Season of Classics with Artistic Director Michael Pink’s enchanting interpretation of the family-favorite Cinderella. This timeless rags-to-riches fairy tale has kept children dreaming of fairy godmothers, pumpkin carriages and true love for generations. The international artists of Milwaukee Ballet bring the story to life May 14-17 at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts.
“Cinderella is the perfect finale for our season,” said Milwaukee Ballet Artistic Director Michael Pink. “It’s a story everyone knows and loves, which makes it a perfect show for both existing and new patrons. Ballet fans will cherish the opportunity to see the classical choreography, the elegant costumes and our Company dancers performing at the height of their training.”
Milwaukee Ballet’s leading ladies Luz San Miguel (Spain) and Annia Hidalgo (Cuba) will dance in the title role in alternating performances, with Alexandre Ferreira (Brazil) and Davit Hovhannisyan (Armenia) as their princes, respectively. The youthful energy of the classic will be bolstered by 40 students from Milwaukee Ballet School & Academy, who join the cast in this family-friendly production.
Beneath the action onstage, the Milwaukee Ballet Orchestra will play Prokofiev’s popular score live for each performance. Fresh from another Emmy-nomination for his work on the Super Bowl Halftime Show featuring Katy Perry, Lighting Director David Grill (Mirror Mirror, Peter Pan) returns to illuminate Pink’s ballet.

About Michael Pink
Michael Pink is the longest serving artistic director in Milwaukee Ballet history. Since joining the Company in December of 2002, he has established himself as a prominent member of the Milwaukee arts community, demonstrating his commitment to the future of dance through new work, education and collaboration. His long-awaited production of Peter Pan signified a major landmark in the Company’s history and was broadcast nationally by PBS in spring of 2014. Mr. Pink’s theatrical productions of Dracula, Esmeralda, Swan Lake, Giselle, The Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Romeo & Juliet, La Bohème and Mirror Mirror have been hailed as ‘Classical Ballet for the 21st Century’.
He trained as a classical dancer at the Royal Ballet, joining English National Ballet in 1975, where he danced many leading roles, most notably his partnership with Natalia Makarova in John Cranko’s Onegin. From 1986 to 1998 he worked alongside Christopher Gable as founding director of Ballet Central and associate artistic director of the Northern Ballet Theatre.
Throughout his career he has worked with such luminaries as Dame Ninette de Valois, Sir Frederick Ashton, Rudolf Nureyev, Léonide Massine, Nicholas Beriosoff, Glen Tetley and Rudolf Nureyev.
His first professional work, 1914, was nominated for a West End Theatre Award.
In 2008, the Wisconsin Dance Council presented Mr. Pink with the Choreography/Performance Award. In May 2014, he was honored by the Milwaukee Press Club with the Headliner Award for service to the arts.
