Carroll University’s Theatre and Arts Management Program Presents 2nd Annual Summer Repertory Series

Waukesha—(May 18, 2014)—Carroll University’s 2^nd Annual Summer Repertory Series will feature two popular productions, “Rent” by Jonathan Larson and “Women of Manhattan” by John Patrick Shanley. The productions are in collaboration with Outskirts Theatre Co. and will be directed by Carroll University’s Lecturer in Theatre and Arts Management Jennifer Dobby. Both performances are open to the public and will feature 21 Carroll University students, Carroll University alumni, and members of Outskirts Theatre Co. General admission to “Rent” is $10, and free to Carroll University students, faculty and staff with valid identification. Admission to “Women of Manhattan” is free to all. “The shows chosen for our 2^nd Annual Summer Repertory Series will challenge our students in many different production areas including musical performance, design, construction, and various marketing, public relations and arts administrative roles,” said Jennifer Dobby, theatre and arts management faculty and director of both plays. “This summer-intensive process will allow students to be involved in the theatrical production process while preparing them for real-world careers.”

The 2^nd Annual Summer Repertory Series will run from June 18 to June 27. During that time, “Rent” will be performed June 18, 20, and 26 at 7 p.m., and June 27 at 2 p.m. The production “Women in Manhattan” will be performed June 19, 25 and 27 at 7 p.m., and June 20 at 2 p.m.

“Rent” follows a year in the life of a group of impoverished, artistic friends living in Manhattan’s gritty East Village. Dreams, love and loss weave their way through this iconic rock musical—painting a stunningly raw and highly emotional portrait of New York City in the 90s. “Women of Manhattan” is a funny and charming play that follows three female characters: Billie, Rhonda and Judy. The three continually gripe that while their careers are flourishing, their emotional lives are a complete disaster.

Carroll University’s Theatre and Arts Management Program created the Summer Repertory Series to give students an enriching theatre experience outside the academic year. The series’ mission is to help Carroll University students explore and develop skills that prepare them for a successful, future career in theatre and arts management.
