Halloween events in full swing

In addition to special events like the El Dia de los Muertos Parade, "Night of the Living Dead (The Puppet Show)" and the Haunted Brewery Bash, Quasimondo and the Milwaukee Ballet present anticipated shows and special music performances abound.

The Tony award-winning Broadway classic Hello, Dolly! makes its way to the Milwaukee Theatre  this weekend with Emmy award winner Sally Struthers starring as Dolly. The show will be held on Friday, Nov. 1 and Saturday, Nov. 2 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets start at $33, available online.

A Fireside Christmas returns to the Fireside Theater for a show filled with new and exciting music, choreography, and cast that celebrates the true meaning of Christmas. Tickets are $67.95, $43.95 for guests 14 and under, available online or call 800-477-9505. See the full schedule here.

Pink Banana Theatre Co. presents Dark Play or stories for boys, a tale about a teenage boy who enjoys creating fake personalities online and what happens when the real and virtual worlds collide. This play will run from Nov. 1-Nov. 16 at The Arcade Theater in the Underground Collaborative. Tickets are $18, available online. This show contains mature content.

Quasimondo Milwaukee Physical Theatre presents Hansel and Gretel: A Cautionary Tale, an entertaining and modern twist on the old classic that addresses consumer culture and healthy eating habits. The show runs at The Milwaukee Fortress from Nov. 1-10, each Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for kids.

Las Cafeteras perform at Latino Arts Inc. this weekend

Latino Arts Inc. presents a performance from Las Cafeteras, known for their energetic, bilingual performances and fusion of traditional and modern beats. The show is on Friday, Nov. 1 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15, $10 students/seniors, available online.

The Center for Arts and Performance at Wisconsin Lutheran College welcomes Sons of the Pioneers as part of their Guest Artist Series on Friday, Nov. 1. The group has been performing music of the American West for more than 75 years and are known for their great family shows. Tickets are available online or call (414) 443-8802.

The Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra opens their 2013-14 season with their Playathon on Sunday, Nov. 3, presented by the Bayshore Community Foundation. This free event will be held at Bayshore Town Center from 10:45 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. See the full schedule of performances here.

The Milwaukee Children’s Choir  presents their Training Department Fall Recitals on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 4 and 7 p.m at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. The 4 p.m. show will feature Prelude West, Prelude East, Milwaukee Girlchoir West, and Resident Choir West. The 7 p.m. show will feature Milwaukee Boychoir East, Milwaukee Girlchoir East, and Resident Choir West. For ticket information call (414) 221-7040.

Yamato, The Drummers of Japan bring their energy, precision, and virtuosity to the Sharon Lynne Wilson Center for the Arts on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 8 p.m. The group creates a variety of sounds and complex rhythms that have astonished more than a million people worldwide. Wisconsin Conservatory of Music presents their energetic and critically acclaimed quartet-in-residence, Philomusica Quartet, on Monday, Nov. 4 at 7:30 p.m. General admission tickets are $25, $15 for students (must present ID and call 414-276-5760 to reserve in advance), available online or call (414) 276-5760.

Milwaukee Ballet’s season opens with Romeo & Juliet

Milwaukee Ballet opens their 2013-14 season with their interpretation of Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet. The show will be held Thursday, Oct. 31–Sunday, Nov. 3. Tickets start at $40.83, available online or call (414) 902-2103.

Film

Milwaukee LGBT Film/Video Festival and the Milwaukee LGBT Community Center present MilQ, a showcase for local LGBT films that will be held at the LGBT Community Center on Saturday, Nov. 2 from 7-10 p.m. Admission is free.

Visual Art

Presented by Potawatomi Bingo Casino and the Museum of Wisconsin Art, Free Day at MOWA on Sunday, Nov. 3 will provide guests with free admission and a complimentary one year museum membership in honor of November being Native American Heritage month.

Special Events

Hundreds of artists will be on hand at the Autumn Festival Arts & Crafts Show to display and sell their handcrafted works. There will also be stage entertainment, hourly gift certificate drawings, and plenty of food and drink. The event will be held all weekend at the Wisconsin State Fair Park from Friday, Nov. 1-Sunday, Nov. 3. Tickets are $8, $7 for seniors, and kids 10 and younger get in for free.

Angry Young Men Ltd. return to the Oriental Theatre for Night of the Living Dead, The Puppet Show

Angry Young Men Ltd’s  annual Night of the Living Dead, The Puppet Show returns to the Oriental Theatre on Thursday, Oct. 31 at 7:30 p.m for a production filled with puppet gore, laughs and surprises. Tickets are $10, available online or at the door.

Umphrey’s McGee returns to the Riverside Theater for their annual Halloween Mashup show which will be held three nights in a row from Thursday, Oct. 31 to Saturday, Nov. 2. Doors open at 7 p.m and tickets are $27.50 in advance, $30 day of show, available online.

The second annual Haunted Brewery Bash will be held at Best Place at the Historic Pabst Brewery on Friday, Nov. 1. The party starts at 8 p.m. and goes until 2:30 a.m. Call (414) 630-1609 for more info.

The 4th Annual El Día de los Muertos Parade: Noche de Niños will be held on Friday, Nov. 1 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. An array of events including arts and crafts will be held in Walker Square Park throughout the day. All are welcome to join the parade and march for loved ones they have lost.

The Dead Man’s Carnival brings their Vaudevillian and Circus Show to the Astor Hotel on Friday, Nov. 1 from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. There will be many exciting acts including jugglers and aerial gymnasts all accompanied by a live band.
