Mark Anderson makes theater out of nothing

Mark Anderson, of Theatre Gigante, in an excerpt from his brilliant monologue: "Me, You, Art and Trout." Video by Val Danculovich.

In September, Mark Anderson unveiled a new monologue, Me, You, Art and Trout. It’s about art, life, the way they interact, and the mind-boggling miracle of the way things just happen to be at any given moment. More on that here.

Mark Anderson gets into your head — and vice-versa — in “Me, You, Art and Trout.”

You, Me, Art and Trout is utterly fascinating, in the way of My Dinner with Andre. After the show on opening night, I asked Anderson to recreate at least a bit of the 80-minute piece for TCD.tv. We finally got around to it. Many thanks to Anderson, videographer Val Danculovich, and to Sahan Jayasuriya for helping with the sound. I’m pleased and proud to present this short excerpt on TCD.tv.

Anderson and Isabelle Kralj are co-directors of Theatre Gigante, which produced You, Me, Art and Trout. Theatre Gigante will open another show, Dust, on Feb. 8 at 8 p.m. It will also run Feb. 9, 14, 15 and 16 at the same time at UWM’s Kenilworth Studio Theatre, on the fifth floor in Room 508, at 1925 E. Kenilworth Place, between Prospect and Farwell. For tickets, call the UWM Peck School of the Arts box office, 414 229-4308, or visit the Peck School’s online ticketing page.

This will be the Milwaukee premiere of Dust, a “dark comedy about a lottery ticket, poverty and fortune,” by celebrated Hungarian playwright György Spiró. Kralj and John Kishline will play the leading parts and Anderson will direct.

Bravo Mark Anderson! I want to live in that world, too! (and sometimes I do.)
Thanks to all those involved in gifting us with this glimpse of art in life.
