Gallery Night Special: Makeal Flammini
“I think I’m a doodler,” says Makael Flammini of her approach to her work. A printmaker and woodcutter whose latest work revolves around the political assassinations of women, Flammini is also one of three coordinators of The Parachute Project, a pop art/installation movement that aims to revitalize Milwaukee’s empty retail spaces for one night and one night only. You’ll find them on Gallery Night at 10th and Highland on the grounds of the old Pabst Factory.
Just don’t call her a statement-maker. Mark and Makeal talk politics, Whacked Ladies! (like Benazir Bhutto and Anna Politkovskaya), McCarthyism, the idea of disappearance, getting kicked out of art school, how to feed one’s face, strength vs. power and how to be an artist in a marketplace.
