Labor Day Parade through Milwaukee

march
It was a rare sunny and pleasant Labor Day, which was good news for the additional All-City People’s Parade attendees who brought up the end of the downtown parade of workers, labor unions and their families. The previous effort earlier this year in Washington Park was rained out, and the grotesque and fantastic outfits and artwork have been sitting in storage waiting to be seen and heard.

loansharkAlthough the Wisconsin Ave. parade-watchers were greatly outnumbered by the marchers, it was still quite a sight to see. Harleys, collector cars, flatbed trucks and semis joined many workers clad in uniform-like T-shirts. Many cried out in praise of their unit. Others called out in support of rights like health care.

Not to be outdone, the elaborate ‘carneval’-like atmosphere of the All-City participants boldly protested societal ills, such as banking fraud, injustice, consumerism and invasion of personal freedoms and rights.
