Dave Fantle discusses film incentives
In May 2006, the Wisconsin state legislature voted into law Senate Bill #563: the Film Wisconsin bill, which officially implemented some of the nation’s most film-friendly tax incentives in the hopes of drawing on-location filmmakers from across the United States to participate in the local economy and foster a home-grown film industry encompassing production studios, independent film professionals and other related services. But, following news of the zero-sum game of giant Michael Mann/Johnny Depp production Public Enemies, the budget proposed by Governor Jim Doyle in February would eliminate the incentives for good, replacing the tax incentives with a biennial $1 million grant program. Last month, Mark Metcalf sat down with Dave Fantle of Visit Milwaukee to get the story.
